Relae helps companies navigate their full energy and climate journey in an integrated way, from power to carbon removal, fuels, nature, and beyond

Carbon Direct today announced it has become Relae, marking its next chapter as an integrated energy and climate advisory company. As Relae, the company will continue helping clients navigate carbon removal, power and energy, environmental markets, natural capital, and climate strategy, now under a unified name that better reflects the full scope of that work.

The milestone reflects a natural evolution for the company. Since 2020, Carbon Direct has built a deep bench of scientists, engineers, market analysts, and policy experts to help companies navigate complex climate and energy challenges. The name "Carbon Direct" became closely associated with the company’s well-known work on carbon dioxide removal (CDR), although it only captured one aspect of its practice, not the full picture. From the start, the company’s expertise spanned a wide range of technical domains and offerings. The Relae moniker, evoking continuous forward progress and seamless collaboration, captures that breadth of work.

"This evolution reflects years of exceptional work, with Relae better showcasing the full breadth of our power and climate advisory capabilities," said Jonathan Goldberg, Founder and CEO of Relae. "Climate and business decisions increasingly intersect across energy systems, environmental markets, natural capital, and decarbonization strategy. Relae is built to move with clients through all of it."

Companies today are navigating carbon markets, power procurement, community engagement, and climate policy as intersecting decisions, not separate workstreams. As those pieces further converge, Relae is well situated to move fluidly across all of them, serving as a unified advisor across the full breadth of a client's energy and climate needs.

In recent years, as energy demands have increased and clients' needs have evolved, the company’s cross-discipline work has deepened. Relae has grown its power and energy capabilities and expanded further into environmental attribute certificates (EACs), superpollutants, clean power procurement, low-carbon fuels, and natural capital, meeting clients where today's market actually is.

The climate mission of the company remains the same: helping organizations turn goals into credible, science-backed action. Relae's position at the intersection of climate and energy allows the company to leverage growing power demand as a critical vehicle for scaling that climate impact, alongside its industrial decarbonization, environmental commodity, natural capital, and policy and strategy practices.

The company has helped more than 150 companies across six continents and 17 sectors navigate clean energy, carbon removal, and decarbonization, including Fortune 100 hyperscalers, airlines, financial institutions, manufacturers, utilities, automakers, and food and beverage producers, as well as governments, family offices, think tanks, foundations, and universities. The team has reviewed more than half of all high-quality tonnes contracted through announced CDR offtake agreements worldwide, conducted over 900 project diligences across 63 countries and 40 carbon removal and reduction practice areas, and its scientists have published more than 1,300 academic research papers. All of this carries forward under the Relae name.
